After being married for over a decade, I can confidently say that marriage is a lot like WiFi—sometimes strong and reliable, sometimes unstable, and occasionally, you just need to unplug and restart.
People often ask, “What’s the secret to a long, happy marriage?” And honestly, if there were a single secret, someone would have bottled it and sold it by now. But if I’ve learned anything, it’s that marriage is a wild mix of love, patience, inside jokes, and knowing when to eat the last slice of cake in secret.
The Highs: Love, Laughter, and That “We” Feeling
Marriage is magical—when it’s good, it’s like having a built-in best friend who knows your weird quirks and loves you anyway. It’s:
Laughing at jokes only the two of you understand.
Finishing each other’s sentences (or correcting them, depending on the day).
Having a partner in crime for midnight snacks and Netflix binges.
Feeling safe, even in your most vulnerable moments.
At its best, love in marriage is warm, steady, and makes life’s chaos a little more bearable. It’s knowing someone will always have your back—even if they roll their eyes while doing it.
The Lows: When “For Better or Worse” Feels More Like “Seriously, You Again?”
Now, let’s be real—marriage is not just candlelit dinners and hand-holding at sunset. Some days, it’s an Olympic-level test of patience. It’s:
Arguing over who left the lights on (again).
Learning that “nothing’s wrong” actually means something is definitely wrong.
Realizing that true love means resisting the urge to correct their driving skills.
Accepting that the snorer between you two will snore like their life depends on it…but keep a mental score.
Marriage has its challenges, but the key is learning to laugh through them. Because let’s face it—if you can survive assembling IKEA furniture together, you can survive anything.
The Wisdom: Love is a Choice (And Sometimes a Deep Breath Away)
After years of navigating love, one thing is clear: marriage isn’t about finding a perfect person—it’s about learning to love an imperfect one. It’s about choosing each other every single day, even when they chew too loudly or take forever to get ready.
So, here’s my marriage advice, from one survivor to another:
Say “I love you” often, but also say, “I’m sorry.”
Keep the humor alive—laughter is the best couples therapy.
Sometimes, just let them have the last slice of pizza (but don’t make it a habit).
Remember, it’s not 50/50 every day—some days, it’s 80/20, and that’s okay.
And yes, let the snorer snore like their life depends on it… but take a dramatic sigh while allowing it.
At the end of the day, love isn’t just about romance—it’s about friendship, commitment, and choosing to dance through the ups and downs, even when life plays a song you don’t like.
And if all else fails… just turn the WiFi off and see who panics first. That’ll remind you of who truly needs who.

Marriage is indeed resisting the urge to correct his / her driving skill cos truly if you have to correct everything you don’t like every time then be ready for arguments and fights most times and is that necessary? So it’s wisdom to let it go for peace and happiness sake .
Lovely write up Rebecca ,hope we’ll be getting more of this often . Cheers
Author

This is so accurate! Marriage really is a mix of love, patience, and knowing when to let the little things go (or pretend you didn’t see them).
The WiFi analogy is also spot on! Sometimes strong, sometimes needing a reset—but always worth reconnecting.
Thank you Rebecca, love it!
Author
Hi Paula, You summed it up perfectly! Marriage truly is a blend of love, patience, and selective ‘blindness’ at times. And yes, just like WiFi, the connection might flicker, but it’s always worth the reset. So glad you loved it—thank you for sharing your thoughts. ❤️
