When I say I miss my single life, I get some raised eyebrows and a few ‘you shouldn’t say that’ look. Now, don’t get me wrong—I absolutely love being married and being a parent. But let’s be honest, I had so much fun as a single lady, and those days helped shape me into the amazing wife I am today. Maybe ‘missing’ isn’t the right word; more like I cherish that chapter of my life and the person I was. That version of me will always hold a special place in my heart.
Here’s a little glimpse into ‘A Day in the single life of Becky…
So, there I was living my best life in Paris, when my home girl Natasha, my partner in all that is good, and silly- came to visit from London. We decided to go clubbing, you know, the full big-girl experience: our own VVIP table, drinks flowing, the whole classy and bougie vibe. We were feeling ourselves, and of course, we hit the dance floor. The music was on point, playing all the Nigerian jams trending at the time, and we were having a blast. But then, out of nowhere, this older white guy comes up, all hyped, and joins us on the dance floor.
Hours go by, we’re tipsy but still in control, and eventually, I take a seat while my girl Natasha and Mr. Hype are dancing away. Fast forward to the taxi ride home, and thank goodness there’s traffic. That’s when it hit me—something snapped in my brain. I turn to her and ask, ‘Babe, where’s your purse?’ She starts giggling like she’s in her own world, and I’m having a full-on panic attack in my head!
That’s when I realized: her passport, her wallet, everything important—was gone. And that, my friends, is when I knew we were officially screwed!
So, at that moment, when I snapped and turned to Natasha, she was finally aware of how screwed we were. I’ll never forget that look on her face—the realization hitting like a ton of bricks. We begged the cab driver to stop and dashed back to the club, adrenaline coursing through our veins. We started searching everywhere, but no purse in sight.
Then, we spotted the man we had been dancing with earlier, still in his corner, completely out of it. I took a deep breath and spoke in French, explaining the situation, and asking if by chance he’d found her purse. He looked at us, squinting, like he had no idea who we were. That was it. We both knew: this was getting worse by the second.
In my head, I was already picturing the worst-case scenario. Her stranded in Paris, with her university master exams a week away, having to deal with the French police and immigration—I could already see the headlines!. And my friend? She was right there with me, already imagining her life unraveling in real-time. It was full-blown panic mode.
We dashed to the bar, asked around—nothing. Then, we ran to the collection area, hearts pounding, when a staff member casually mentioned, ‘Oh, I saw a purse on the bar counter and filed it in.’ And then, the moment of glory—there it was. Her purse, sitting there, unbothered by the chaos we’d just lived through. It was like the universe was playing a prank on us.
We could finally breathe. The worst was over… until we realized we had no idea how we’d gotten into this mess in the first place!
After finding the purse and narrowly escaping disaster, we got into another cab. At that point, there was dead silence between us—like, too silent. We were both still shaking, trying to erase the images in our minds of my friend becoming a refugee in Paris after one too many drinks and a wild dance. Honestly, it felt like we had dodged the ultimate travel horror movie. I’m telling you, it was humbling.
We finally made it to my place, still in shock, when Natasha dashed to the ladies’ room and puked out her fear. I guess she had to get rid of all that built-up anxiety somehow! After cleaning up, we tried to sleep… but let’s be real—we couldn’t. Our minds were still racing, replaying every moment of that night.
And then, boom. The next morning, it was like a switch flipped. We couldn’t stop laughing like hyenas. We both looked at each other, and it hit us: that older man? He was an agent sent by the universe to ruin us. He wasn’t just a dancer; he was on a secret mission to turn her into a Parisian refugee!
To this day, we still laugh about that night. It’s like every time we talk about it, the story just gets funnier. And now, whenever we think back on it, we both reckon that man had a very specific agenda—one that almost involved her becoming an illegal immigrant in Paris. But hey, we survived, and now it’s one of our best stories to tell.
Looking back, it’s clear: travel is full of unexpected surprises, and sometimes, the best thing you can do is laugh through it. Always stay alert, keep your valuables close, and never forget to enjoy the adventure—even when it feels like the universe is throwing you a curveball. Safe travels, and keep the memories (and the laughter) rolling.

Hi Kola, 😂 Right? A missing purse, a wild club night, and a plot twist ending. Natasha really took “letting it all out” to a whole new level! 🤣 Next time, we’ll stick to sightseeing… far away from heart-stopping purse dramas, & dancing with a possible agent of ruin 😆. Glad you enjoyed the chaos!

Always a good feeling when we can find new humour in old chaos or tragedy. I can relate!!! The tone in the writing though- soulful, warm, clean and un-suggestive, Natasha….. really good stuff u did with this one here😁😁😁😁
